In truth, I’m not much of a salad person. I have to have some pretty tempting stuff on the salad to want to eat it. I’ve given up greasy croutons, even though they are super tasty. So something with crunch that isn’t full of fat? These, baby! They are “bacon” flavored and just oh so good combined with some Jalapeno Ranch on a salad.
So if you want a little smoky, sweet, salty, spicy and crunchy something on your next salad (these are even good in potato salad!!!) just bake up a quick batch of these bad boys.
My favorite thing about these? They are actually a healthy plant strong addition to any vegan salad! You won’t feel the least bit guilty adding a ton to the top of your salad but your salads will be so much happier with a sprinkle of em on top.
- 1 & 1/2 cups cooked lentils
- 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
- 2 Tablespoons low sodium tamari or soy sauce
- 2 Tablespoons liquid smoke
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl and let it marinate for 15 minutes. Then pour all of the ingredients onto the parchment lined baking sheet.
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until crunchy, stirring every 5 minutes to prevent burning.
