Vegan Carob (or chocolate) Hazelnut Spread — Fo Reals Life

September 04, 2013 September 04, 2013/ Morgan

I was recently sent some hazelnuts from OhNuts.com and I just wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them! Then came my toast eater to my rescue with an idea – yeah. That’s what I call the Mr. sometimes. He can eat a whole loaf of Dave’s Killer Bread in 3 days! Easy.

When I first met him he ate Nutella on his toast. Now things have changed. ONE – he can’t have chocolate anymore. It has too much caffiene in it and makes him sick. Bummer!!!!! And TWO – we’re vegan! That Nutella crapola has milk, whey and PALM OIL in it! BARF!

Here comes my brilliant idea! Make my own yummy spread and use carob powder instead so he can eat it! Now you don’t have to use carob powder. But you can. It’s delicious! And that’s coming from someone who can and DOES eat loads of chocolate.

So without further delay I present to you the awesome and delicious Vegan Carob (or chocolate!) Hazelnut Spread (that tastes way better than Nutella!)

A few notes about the recipe:

Use toasted hazelnuts. If yours are raw you can toast them in the oven at 350 degrees – I won’t tell you how long it takes because you need to be watching them like crazy so they don’t burn. Shake the pan around several times so they cook evenly.

You can use a food processor or a high speed blender for this recipe. An immersion or regular blender just won’t work for this.

The spread should last about two weeks in the fridge. It has non dairy milk in it so please refrigerate it.
